About:
Corey is working towards a Master's Degree in Physics. He graduated from BYU in 2022 with an undergraduate in Applied Physics, with an emphasis in acoustics and signal processing. He has worked with Dr. Traci Neilsen in the Underwater Acoustics Research Lab since 2021.
Corey grew up in Castaic, CA. After high school, he spent two years in Spain volunteering as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married his wife, Renae, in 2021. His hobbies include playing the piano and cello, watching movies, skiing, mountain biking, and traveling.
Research:
Corey's current research seeks to test machine learning models for robustness in predicting source range based on acoustic signals in the measurements tank. In the presence of variability of the ambient environment, how will the model's ability to range the sound source change? What is needed to improve the model's generalizability? His daily work includes making acoustic measurements in the laboratory tank to generate datasets to train the models, training and testing models on the data, and researching and testing ways to improve the process.
