About:

Alexandra Hopps McDaniel is a recent graduate from Brigham Young University with a degree in Applied Physics, graduated in April 2023. She joined the Hydroacoustic lab in January of 2022.

From Las Vegas, NV Alex is interested in source localization and the effects that environmental variability has in developing accurate sound propagation models. In her free time Alex enjoys cooking, reading, playing board games with friends and family, and going on hikes. She is an avid dog lover, online shopping enthusiast, and never goes a day without eating chocolate.

Research:

Alex’s research focused on characterizing the sound speed variability in our laboratory water tank for testing the robustness of machine learning algorithms. She has also worked on projects to track shipping noises during the Seabed Characterization Experiment in 2022 (SBCEX 2022).
